Thousands crowded Main Street in North Myrtle Beach for the 20th year of the Irish-Italian International Festival. We can proudly say, it was a busy day at our food booth with 30 people deep all day picking up delicious Italian favorites. Our membership booth was also busy with families who came by to pin their ancestral heritage locations on Tina and Marina’s map of Italy and children enjoyed receiving Italy flags to show their Italian pride. We all truly appreciate all our members who volunteered and our customers who came by our booths at this year’s Festival. We look forward to seeing you again in 2025!

Our wine tasting event UNDER the TUSCAN SUN had a fabulous turnout on Saturday!

Some say Italian wine is intimidating, but it need not be. Through the ages, Italian wine has been lauded for its characteristics as a simple, natural beverage. We had 50 members and guests join us on a wine journey to Italy’s famed region of Tuscany where we swirled, sniffed and tasted our way through some Tuscan superstars. We discussed how to understand them and were regaled with intriguing information as to their names, stories and history. We also discussed wine basics; (sight, smell, taste, and touch); and the pairing of food and wine. We dispelled some wine myths such as *white with fish and red with meats.” We were inviteed to travel, have some fun, and tasted six fascinating Tuscan superstars both white and red from Castello Banfi on our journey into the realm of fine wine.
Award winning Castello Banfi was founded in 1978 thanks to the will of two Italian-American brothers, John and Harry Mariani. From the beginning, the goal of these brothers was to create a state-of-the-art winery combined with the most advanced science in the vineyards for the production of premium wines.
Our speaker was our own lodge member Sharron McCarthy, Past President of the Society of Wine Educators, former VP of Banfi Vintners. In 2015, the Italian government inducted Sharron into the Wines of Italy Hall of Fame which took place at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC. Sharron was also a guest on the national OSDIA Interviews LIVE! with Mark DeNunzio in 2021.
