Lodge History

Our lodge was established on March 13, 2022, in the beautiful historic community of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, located just north of Pawleys Island and south of Myrtle Beach. Famously known as the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina.” this historic fishing village and laid-back atmosphere, is also home to many Italian Americans.

Our lodge meets regularly on the second Sunday of the month at the Murrells Inlet American Legion Lodge. We have a growing membership, which is open to men and women of Italian and non-Italian heritage. Guests are always welcome to join us at a meeting or one of our many local events. We are a very community-minded lodge and hold fundraising events every year, which enable us to contribute regularly to non-profit organizations. This is primarily accomplished through our pasta nights, annual golf tournaments, member and non-member events, as well as festivals.

Our Order focuses attention on the spirit of early Italian immigrants, embodied in the principles of the Order: Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. We are dedicated to preserving and promoting our Italian heritage and combating negative stereotype images of Italians and Italian Americans. Our lodge is a subordinate lodge of the nationwide Order Sons of Italy in America, founded in 1905 as a mutual aid society for Italian immigrants by Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro.

The Order is a fraternal organization with over 50,000 members representing Italian heritage in America. Its primary members are of Italian descent or have ties through marriage. In his inaugural speech, Dr. Sellaro concluded by stating his dream that “…our children and their children’s children, even if they carry a single drop of Italian blood, will be able and proud to continue to carry on our traditions, our culture, and our language.”
