Welcome
Thank you for visiting the new website of Murrells Inlet Lodge 3006, Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America. We hope you find it informative and easy to navigate, as you look at our history, past and upcoming events and membership information.
Our organization was founded in 1905 as Figli d’Italia, or the Children of Italy in America. It was established to provide a place where newly arrived immigrants from Italy could go to obtain help finding suitable housing and employment in their new homeland. It was someplace where they could learn the new language and become familiar with the laws to become productive citizens of the United States. As time passed, we became the Order Sons of Italy in America, the oldest and largest organization representing Italians and Italian Americans. Today, we have again changed our name to become the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, and we now have members in Canada and Italy. We are committed to preserving our rich heritage and passing it along to our children, as well as inviting our friends and neighbors to learn about our history and culture, whether it be through food, art, language, or entertainment.
We are also a philanthropic organization, donating to local charities, and on a national level, our Sons of Italy Foundation has donated millions of dollars to a wide variety of causes. We support the National Alzheimer’s Foundation, the Doug Flutie Autism Project and Cooley’s Anemia research to name a few, along with our disabled veterans and First Responders. Each year, on a national and local level, we provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships.
We invite you to explore our website and to join us in some of our activities. If you think that you may want to join us in celebrating the great traditions of our beloved organization, please fill out an application. Membership is open to everyone!
Thank you
